For those of you who wish to enhance your Celebration experience by attending a Secretariat fan gathering in nearby Ashland Friday evening, March 29 and/or a Sunday, March 31 morning private brunch with visit to the gravesite of Penny Chenery, please see complete information below.
Friday, March 29, 5:00 pm | Secretariat Fan Pre-Party at Trackside Grill
An informal gathering at one of Ashland's favorite pubs in the heart of downtown. This casual, family-friendly restaurant serving American grill fare resides in a historic building built in 1927 that originally housed Ashland's first movie theater. The "Trackside Grill" name was derived as an intended pun, not for its proximity to the adjacent railway line, but for the racing-related decor and photographs that line the walls inside.
Pre-Party guests will enjoy reserved seating and receive food and drink tickets valid for a choice of delicious hearty appetizers, beer, wine and, of course, the famed "Secretariat Cocktail." Participate in the Secretariat Trivia contest, or simply swap stories and enjoy the camaraderie of your fellow Secretariat fans in this comfortable horse-lovers setting. Advance Purchase Price $25.00 per person
Sunday, March 31, 9:00 am - 11:00 am | Secretariat Fan Breakfast at the Henry Clay Inn and visit to Penny Chenery's gravesite
This very special two-part event features a bountiful breakfast at the historic and charming inn named for the famous American statesman born in Hanover County in 1777. Kate Tweedy will personally host this get-together setting that also will offer Secretariat fans a choice of eggs cooked to order, pancakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, ham, grilled potatoes, and of course a "Meadow Stable" muffin.
Following the breakfast, guests will join Kate via shuttle bus in a private visit to the nearby resting place of her luminary mother, Penny Chenery. Guests are invited to pay their respects to the memory of this iconic "First Lady of Racing" and join in the informal flower-bearing ceremony or even share a few words about what Penny meant to them and the amazing legacy she left to the sport of Thoroughbred racing. Advance Purchase Price $125.00 per person
Proceeds will assist fund-raising efforts for the proposed Secretariat Heritage Center at the Meadow.
