The party begins at the Iron Horse Restaurant in downtown Ashland, Virginia. Ashland’s origin is on full display a this popular establishment in the heart of its historic downtown thanks to the railroad tracks that run immediately parallel to this community landmark.
A slice of Americana, the Iron Horse is located in a century-old building at the charming intersection of Main Street and Railroad Ave. Its famed Corner Bar will host the Celebration Kickoff, where Big Red fans can mingle with old friends and meet new ones. From 5:00 p.m - 7:00 p.m., Birthday Celebration guests will be treated to light hors d'oeuvres and enjoy a cash bar with happy hour specials including a selection of specially themed Secretariat libations!
Offering Southern hospitality at its finest, the Iron Horse offers a menu specializing in steaks, fresh regional seafood, and chef-inspired nightly specials. Open for lunch, dinner and late night, as well as a perfect vantage point of the busiest rail line on the East Coast.
Developed as a mineral springs resort in the 1840s and officially incorporated in 1858, Ashland was named after the Kentucky estate of Virginia native son and great early American statesman Henry Clay. Ashland's historic small town charm boasts a variety of eclectic shops and local restaurants, as well as the Henry Clay Inn, Ashland Theatre, Randolph-Macon College, and much more, all centrally located within a few blocks of the downtown area, and ideal for walking visitors and site seekers.
