In 2012, the popular bay colt owned by Zayat Stables and trained by Bob Baffert displayed brilliance on the track winning the Haskell Stakes, and placing in the Belmont Stakes and Derby Trial. However, it was his courage and determination off the track, in which he battled back from life-threatening illness, that endeared him to millions. As part of a social media phenomenon, "Power Up Paynter" became a familiar catch-phase for fans both inside and outside the sport of racing, as they diligently followed his daily prognosis leading to recovery.
Acclaimed equine artist Jaime Corum captures the grace and beauty of Paynter in an elegant classic portrait exhibiting the intelligent expression and soulful eye that so many fans have come to love. From his distinctive white star and uniqued snippet of white on his nose, to the glimpse of tousled mane, the refined bay colt is detailed to perfection in racing tack including his colorful blue shadowroll. Denoting the special honor of being selected as the Secretariat "Vox Populi" winner, a small remarque of the 1973 Triple Crown winner adorns the lower right corner of the print.
