UPDATE: We are delighted to announce Old Friends will be the permanent residence for the Kentucky homecoming of Groundshaker, the last horse bred and raced in the mighty Meadow Stable colors by Penny Chenery. We invite you to attend the "coming out" reception for this aptly named 17-hand equine debutante and great-great granddaughter of Secretariat himself.
An exclusive paddock introduction and welcoming reception will take place at approximately 10:30 a.m. during the Old Friends portion of the Godolphin/Old Friends Farm Tour activities. We are also now offering the option to enjoy this event independently from the Godolphin Tour, however attendees must provide their own transportation to Old Friends.
The Secretariat Festival is proud to offer the Godolphin Darley Stud/Old Friends tour duo to Sunday's Festival activities. Tour-goers will get the double bonus of the illustrious breeding farm and the popular racing retirement facility all in one great tour.
The gorgeous Godolphin Thoroughbred breeding facility and home of Darley Stud, is based at the historic Jonabell Farm founded in 1946 in the heart of the Bluegrass. With its distinctive international flair, this heralded farm is home to Kentucky Derby champions Nyquist and Street Sense and acclaimed stallions Medaglia d'Oro, Frosted and Hard Spun.
Old Friends, the non-profit Thoroughbred retirement center founded in 2003 is a "living history museum of horse racing." Meet some of America's famous retired race horses including 1997 Kentucky Derby winner Silver Charm, still going strong at the esteemed age of 27. Additionally, the farm houses the popular Game on Dude, Touch Gold and Alphabet Soup as well as 2011 Secretariat "Vox Populi" Award winner Rapid Redux among the 106 treasured horses at this equine haven.
