Tinners Way was well known and beloved for two reasons: 1) He was the last son from the final crop of Secretariat foals born in 1990, and 2) he was one of Secretariat's most successful progeny.
Tinners Way was a beloved resident of the non-profit Georgetown, Kentucky Thoroughbred retirement facility Old Friends, before passing away at the venerable old age of 27. In honor of his memory, we are proud to offer a commemorative Tinners Way Mug with sale proceeds to benefit Old Friends.
Bred and raced by Juddmonte Farms and trained by the late great Bobby Frankel, Tinners Way earned more than $1.8 million in a career spanning 27 races across two continents. Tinners Way was a two-time winner of the prestigious Del Mar Pacific Classic. In his 1994 performance, Tinners Way equaled the Del Mar track record running the 1 1/4 mile distance in the $1,000,000 Grade 1 race in the blazing time of 1:59 2/5, which just so happens to be the same time his daddy marked in the 1973 Kentucky Derby, setting a new (and still existing) track record.
