An extremely limited historical offering from the private collection of the "First Lady of Racing" Penny Chenery and the Secretariat Archives.
This period solid sterling silver Julep Cup with the distinctive hand-tooled sterling silver horseshoe adornment and rose petal banding at the base was produced by Brown Waterhouse Kaiser as part of their official Kentucky Derby Mint Julep Cup series. The BWK silver Derby cups maintained their exclusive craftsmanship and upscale stature throughout their 60+ year history until the company disbanded in 2010. Interestingly, the early period BWK cups, including the 1973 Secretariat Julep Cup, were produced with the horseshoe facing downward indicative of the era and prior to the exterior design change of the horseshoe facing upward found in the more contemporary BWK cups.
The 1973 Julep Cup features the meticulously detailed engraving of Secretariat's name and the year on the front and "Meadow Stable" on the opposite side. The bottom of the cup displays the official Kentucky Derby designation and BWK hallmark sterling stamp. Each 1973 Julep Cup offered is individually registered within the Secretariat archive collection and is accompanied by a corresponding letter of authenticity.
