Riva Ridge 1973 Brooklyn Handicap World Record Photo

This wonderful New York Racing Association official winner's photo features Riva Ridge following his victory in the 1973 Brooklyn Handicap. The image originates from the private collection of Hall of Fame rider Ron Turcotte.

While often overshadowed by his famous younger Meadow stablemate Secretariat, Riva Ridge was a champion in his own right, and his talent was unequivocally demonstrated with his victory in the 1973 Brooklyn Handicap at Aqueduct Park. The prestigious race run on July 4 saw the fleet runner bring his own fireworks that historic summer day, registering the sizzling time of 1:52 2/5 for the 1 3/16 mile distance and establishing both a new track and world record in the process.

The impressive 16" x 20" composite photo features the Meadow Stable team -- owner Penny Chenery, trainer Lucien Lauren, jockey Ron Turcotte, farm secretary Elizabeth Ham, exercise rider Charlie Davis, and groom Eddie Sweat. Hand-signed by Mr. Turcotte himself, it measures 28" x 24" in total within a double-matted brown hardwood frame.
