For more than 40 years, Secretariat's owner Penny Chenery has made many public appearances enjoying the opportunity to listen to the many stories of lasting impression the big red colt provided his fans. The common thread running through these memories are the phrases, "I was there", or "I saw him." Paying tribute to those whose life was touched by the Meadow Stable superstar, Secretariat.com is proud to debut the first edition release of the collectible Penny Card Series.
Each piece in this initial quartet of trading cards is accompanied by an actual uncirculated 1973 US penny set within its own circular coin holder. It is a fitting addition that pays tribute to Secretariat's championship season, Mrs. Chenery, and also Secretariat's brilliant copper chestnut color. The four individual cards in this inaugural release, each published in varying degrees of rarity, feature Secretariat in a moment in which any of his fans can identify. The production numbers of each card are as follows:
"I Was There" - 125 total cards published
"Triple Crown Witness" - 250 total cards published
"I Saw Secretariat" - 500 total cards published
"I Love Big Red'' - 1000 total cards published
Each 3 1/2" by 2 1/2" card featuring a favorite image from Mrs. Chenery's personal collection is printed with silver metallic ink highlights and contains quick facts about the champ on the reverse. Cards are shipped in their own individual acrylic card case, an unbeatable combination for racing fans and coin collectors alike.
