When we at Secretariat.com created the Collectors Corner, this is the type of item we had in mind ... Extremely rare, truly unique and available only through the direct acquisition from the collections of those closest to the legendary champion.
In 1973 immediately following Secretariat's retirement, Pierre Bellocq, who is known affectionately as "Peb" and adored the world over for his Daily Racing Form caricature drawings depicting the diversity of horses and personalities within the racing world, published a collection of his favorite 50 renderings recounting the numerous storylines and events from the historic 1972-73 racing campaigns of the Meadow Stable dynamic duo, Riva Ridge and Secretariat. Only 100 of these beautiful oversized folios were produced and offered at the original purchase price of $400 each before quickly selling out. In 1998 one of these extremely rare folios was resold for $2350 through the prestigious Sotheby's auction house.
We have been fortunate to acquire 5 copies of this impressive oversized folio direct from the private collections of the artist and Secretariat's owner, Penny Chenery. Each folio from our exclusive inventory is truly unique in that all 5 are numbered and signed by both Mrs. Chenery and Mr. Bellocq, with the invaluable bonus feature of an original remarque drawing by Peb. Only these 5 copies can offer those special features making them a must for the serious collector.
Each folio consists of 50 separate drawings printed on heavy archival stock enclosed in a gold-stamped linen slipcase. Recapture this investment in American racing history through the eyes of its premiere caricature artist. 17" x 13".
